5 Free Things to do in Chicago this weekend

TGIF Chicago edition! The weekend is finally here and I don’t know about you guys but I get tired of doing the same thing every weekend, which in my case is wine and sleep. There’s always something to do in Chicago but I  don’t feel like I take advantage of all the city has to offer. Here’s a list of 5 free things t do in Chicago this weekend:

  1. Silver Room block party in Hyde Park -Saturday July 15 you can enjoy a culture – filled celebration with music, art , dancing, and rich culture last from noon – 10 pm. Silver room block party

 

  1. Culture Fair in Chinatown – Sunday, July 16, head to Chinatown to celebrate the 39th annual Chinatown summer fair. This fair will feature old and new world music acts, activities for children, artisans and cuisine. Dragon and Lion Dance Procession is set to begin at 12:45 p.m. Admission is free. more info here.

 

  1. First annual Thai food festival – Saturday July 15 from 11 am to 9pm The Thai-American Restaurant Association will host the first annual festival featuring authentic food from Thai restaurants around Chicago at Thorek Memorial Hospital parking lot at 851 W. Irving Park Road.
    1. -Donation at entrance
      -Wristbands are required for alcohol purchases
      -No outside food or drinks allowed
    2. -Limited Vegan/Vegetarian options available

 

 

  1. Soulful Chicago Book Fair – This free festival will gather a collection of authors, musicians, and poets to celebrate literary achievements within the African diaspora. Spoken word artists Funkadesi and Joy Elan will be performing. 61st Street between Cottage Grove and Martin Luther King Drive. soulful chicago book fair

 

 

  1. Looking for something to do tonight? Check out Second Fridays. This event is always free and takes place the second Friday of every month from 6pm to 10 pm year round in the pilsen neighborhood in Chicago’s art district  . This event showcases best artists and art galleries in Chicago art galleries in Chicago. You’ll have an opportunity to mingle with the artists as you be walk from one Chicago art gallery in Pilsen to another.  The event is free but bring some cash in case you see something you like, this is also a cute date night idea!more info

    I used to do this when I was on the scene here in Miami. Ladies always say “Wow, I never been here before”.
