Ok, so for those who are just tuning in to this, a A few days ago, a YouTuber and beauty blogger named Vika Shapel posted a pic and video on Instagram showing half of her face painted in chocolate to promote an upcoming YouTube video she called it “the chocolate challenge.” Uuuuuuuum ma’am ! You should have known the internet was going to eat you alive ! Especially black twitter, nothing gets by us! Yes, I said us ( founding member circa 2008) and for good reason. Whether it was intentional or not this is called black face and it’s very offensive. According to Teen vogue Vika has deleted the post and since then deactivated her social media accounts, I guess she just couldn’t take it anymore.
screenshots live forever !
Why?! What do I have to do to convince people that my skin tone is not a trend/a mask/a makeup challenge/ a new concept for entertainment?!

Following the social media reaction, according to yahoo news, Vika Shapel released an apology stating “I wasn’t aware of the whole black-face concept before people began commenting it on the photo. I would like to apologize to people that were hurt or offended by my post, and it won’t happen again.” Girl bye! You weren’t aware of the black face concept? Interesting. I’m not calling her a liar , I’m saying it’s interesting. Many people pointed out that she altered the image to give the “chocolate” side of her face brown eyes and the untouched side blue eyes( insert intense eye roll here).
I know this melanin is lit, but it’s not a trend to try on. Let’s be respectful of the the fact that under this black skin is a person, not a trend or a challenge!
